(5) Advanced Computerized Vision System for Automatic Quality Control of the Sealing in Foil Packed Food Products (+)

A small Danish company has developed an automatic vision-based system for inspecting and eventually rejecting the sealing in foil-packed food products. When food products are packaged by machines like tray sealers or rollstock machines, manual quality control of the sealing is normally tedious and inefficient. This system offers fast and uniform 100 % control of sealed products, making it possible to fully automate the entire packaging process. Commercial or license agreement wanted.

(6) Hand-held diagnostic instruments using novel aroma luminescence method for in vivo monitoring of the quality of fruit (+)

A Portuguese R&D company has developed a new class of portable diagnostic equipment for monitoring the quality of fruit using the aroma luminescence method. The company is offering the agricultural and food industry different prototypes of the aroma luminescence sensors for non-destructive sorting of specific fruit by internal quality during the maturation period in the field and in the post-harvest period. Different kinds of agreements are sought.

(7) A new wet chemical method to fill in Carbon Nanotubes (CNTs) with nanoclusters of various materials (+)

An Italian research centre developed a new wet chemical method that allows the filling of CNTs with nanoclusters of various materials, without causing any external material growth. This method implies low-cost technologies, using a multi-step synthesis and controlling carefully the dimension of the filling material. License agreements with companies interested in the electronic, energetic and material application of the technology are expected.

(8) Remote Sensing technology, based on Opto-Thermal Transient Emission Radiometry (OTTER) (+)

A London-based university, leading in bioengineering research for in vivo human skin studies, has developed a remote sensing technology based on opto-thermal transient emission radiometry (OTTER). This technology allows measurement of skin hydration and its depth profile, skin pigmentation and its depth profiling, thermal diffusivity, trans-dermal drug diffusion or thermal emission decay spectroscopy. The technology is useful in the cosmetic industry and in medical diagnostics.

(9) Technology for authentication of items and documents (+)

A London-based company has developed a system for document authentication, that allows differentiating an authentic item from a fraudulent one. The system is based on the company’s proprietary optical technique for measuring the microscopic imperfections of a surface into a physical identity code that is unique (with the probability of two naturally-occurring codes matching being as low as 10^150). The company is seeking industrial partners interested in implementing this technology.
